What's EPDM Grades Material
EPDM Grades are mainly known as Economy Grade(Commercial)EPDM,High Grade (Premium)EPDM,Peroxide Cure EPDM and White FDA Approved EPDM. These four EPDM Grades are used in various long term UV exposure,anti-ozone & water & steam,outdoor sealing applications, due to different working environment and properties requirement.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a kind of ternary polymer copolymerized by ethylene, propylene and unconjugated diene terpolymer. Its main chain is composed of saturated hydrocarbon with chemical stability. There exists unsaturated double bond only in side chain. Therefore, fully saturated polymer chain offer EPDM resistance to sunlight, heat, oxygen, ozone. EPDM has excellent ozone, heat, weather and aging resistance.
Commercial blend EPDM is the most economical EPDM offered for applications facing intermittent tempurature, which is used in applications like airplane hangar door weather seals. The flexibility in extreme temperatures is a characteristic that makes it the best choice for exterior sealing applications.
EPDM has the lowest density. Therefore, EPDM can absorb a large quantity of fillings and oils meanwhile has little influence on properties, which can be used to manufacture low-cost rubber compounds.
High Grade (Premium)EPDM
High Grade EPDM is usually applied in where a higher performance is required, which give it a wide range of applications.
High Grade EPDM’s main property is its excellence to resist weathering, heat and ozone effects, hence its regular usage for roofing, seals and other outdoor applications.
100% EPDM Premium grade EPDM contains 100% EPDM polymer. Designed to give maximum service.
Peroxide Cure EPDM
Peroxides improve the heat stability, the modulus, the aging and the compression set of compounds.
Peroxide cured EPDM is resistant to alcohols, engine coolants, hot water, ketones, organic and inorganic acids, steam.
However, Peroxide cure EPDM is not resistant to fuels, greases, mineral oils.
Peroxide cured EPDM compounds are therefore not recommended for gasoline, petroleum oil and grease, and hydrocarbon environments.
(Note: EPDM can be cured with sulphur and peroxide based on the requirements of the application. Compared with sulphur cured EPDM, peroxide cured EPDM compounds have a better chemical and thermal resistance. Where peroxide cured EPDM can resist a temperature up to 150 C (300 F), sulphur cured EPDM can only resist temperatures up to 120 C (250 F).)
White FDA Approved EPDM
Food Grade EPDM rubber is compounded for white/off white color and easy cleaned in
long term UV exposure and food contact applications, which is compliant to the Code of Federal Regulations 21CFR177.2600. FDA EPDM is resistant to cleaning chemicals and offers long service life.
Peroxide cured EPDM is very suitable for use in (Chloramine treated) drinking water, food and beverages (incl dairy products) applications.
